Help our kids continue to learn on Country.

While some schools try to understand our culture, it’s not the same as living and teaching it authentically. At Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School, we do things differently.

Here, our students know their culture isn’t just respected; it’s celebrated. As an Aboriginal person, they understand that their identity is valued and honoured every day. This connection to culture makes all the difference.

We are the first and only bilingual Aboriginal language school in NSW, and we are pushing the boundaries of what bilingual education can look like. Every day, we are redefining the future of education for Gumbaynggirr People and First Nations communities across the country.

Our community—our mob—knows what to teach and how to teach our Junuybin (children). At our school, our junuybin are Gumbaynggirr Daari (strong). Our barrmarrany (families) are deeply connected to our Values of Wajaarr (Country), Guunu-warluuny (Culture), and Miindalay-gam (Wisdom), through a cultural curriculum that focuses on Wajaada (learning on Country).

Our unique classroom dynamic integrates Language Teachers, Cultural Experts, Elders, and Learning Support Staff, all of whom are equally valued alongside Western-trained educators. This approach creates a holistic, enriching learning environment for our junuybin.
